About the Role

Position Summary

Assured Guaranty works with banks, issuers, finance companies, asset managers and their advisors to provide cost-effective credit enhancement for structured finance transactions in markets around the world. Our guaranty improves the creditworthiness, marketability and market liquidity of traditional consumer and commercial asset-backed securities and structured municipal financings in both new issue and secondary markets and enables efficient risk transfer in public or private transactions for financial institutions, including banks, asset managers and insurance companies.

The Global Structured Finance Group focuses on originating and underwriting credit and other financial risk related to a range of clients and asset types including (among others) asset backed securities, commercial real estate, collateralized loan obligations and fund finance.

Assured is seeking an applicant eager to assist and develop skills in the aforementioned areas, contributing to the group’s overall success. The candidate will develop a skillset and deep understanding of structured finance markets and structured credit asset classes, in addition to communication, presentation and research related skills in the workplace. The candidate will be exposed to all "steps" in the underwriting process including research, idea generation, credit underwriting, modeling, documentation, execution.

Primary Responsibilities

The intern will assist with the following tasks:

  • Work directly with the group's junior and senior professionals in all aspects of structured finance origination

  • Conduct market research and industry reviews for an array of asset classes (utilizing resources such as rating agency reports, Bloomberg, etc.)

  • Assist in all aspects of underwriting of transactions, including deal screening, market research, credit memos and internal presentations

  • Participate in meetings internally with senior management and externally with clients

  • Coordinate actions with other departments or groups as necessary

  • Review sections of transaction legal documentation and translate findings within the group

Candidate Background and Qualifications

  • Pursuing bachelor's degree in finance, insurance, economics, statistics, accounting, or related field preferred (or pursuing career in finance related field)
  • Detail oriented with strong written and oral communication skills
  • Must be highly motivated, self-driven, collaborative, a strong communicator and able to multi-task several projects at a time.
  • Confident self-starter who can operate with minimal supervision
  • Ambition to develop skills for analyzing and projecting asset/liability cash flows
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

The salary for the position is expected to be from $28 per hour to $32 per hour. The actual salary will depend on various factors, including but not limited to a candidate’s experience and credentials, salary expectations of applicable candidates, and other applicable market conditions. This position provides a weekly all-firm catered breakfast (Tuesday) and lunch (Wednesday) as well as intern-specific meals and events.

Note: A housing stipend may be available for interns who live outside of the New York metropolitan area and move to the New York metropolitan area for the internship, subject to certain conditions.
