Job Description AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Water/Wastewater Process Engineering Intern for employment in the Markham, ON office.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks related to municipal wastewater treatment and automation design and construction administration activities. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
- Work under supervision of a project manager, contract administrator, and/or senior-level team member.
- Participate in wastewater engineering, process and automation design activities including preparation of design calculations, equipment sizing and selection, process layouts, engineering specifications, and cost estimates.
- Prepare CAD drawings such as P&IDs, process piping, control panel, and network drawings.
- Equipment selection and liaison with equipment suppliers and vendors.
- Review of quantity and cost estimates for completeness and accuracy.
- Participate in contract administration services during the construction of wastewater infrastructure and facilities.
- Perform municipal wastewater treatment plant site investigations, data collection, and analysis activities.
- Prepare technical memoranda, contribute to preliminary and detailed design reports.
- Prepare permitting applications for local regulatory agencies.
- Work collaboratively on multidisciplinary design teams and assist with coordination tasks.
Qualifications Minimum Requirements:
- Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental, Mechatronics, Systems Design or related field and must have completed at least 1 year of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the master’s degree are eligible to apply for this position. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
Preferred Qualifications:

Proficient in the use of desktop computational tools including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project, etc.

Strong interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills.

Strong technical report writing skills.

Able to organize workload and multiple project deadlines.

Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and MicroStation).

Previous work experience in the field of municipal wastewater is an asset.
