Including supporting our Cyber readiness efforts, Application rollout and support with our Maximo work management system, and Process improvement with our Workday HR/Financial cloud SaaS solution.* Participate with the Network and Security Administration for Skookum. Your role is to observe and learn our processes bringing creative thoughts with the intent of providing a different perspective or approach.

  • Participate with the Workday Team as part of an Application Support role. Understand what Skookum uses Workday for and assist with ongoing projects. The candidate will walk away with basic skills supporting the various modules of Workday that Skookum has deployed. Application support skills are part of SAS (Software as a Service) environment and will be developed as part of this rotation.
  • Participate with the IBM Maximo Team as part of an Application Development role. The intern will be part of a team that is continually improving our implementation of this work management tool and see how it supports our technicians in the field. If the intern has the necessary skills, they may be asked to assist with some of the projects this team has underway. Application development, supporting real work environments, will be developed as part of this rotation.
  • Participate with the End User Support team to see how Skookum delivers outstanding customer service to our end users across all technologies. Including but not necessarily limited to, how we manage the workflow to provide timely support. The intern will gain experience working with end users directly as a member of this team. Customer Service Skills will be developed supporting technology as part of this rotation.
  • In addition, there will be other interns as part of the program, and group activities will be made available.

  • Assist with various Skookum audits including I-9 annual audit, CDL audit, separated worker file audit, etc.
  • Assist HR Coordinator with presenting and processing onboarding paperwork at Skookum’s weekly new hire orientation.
  • Assist with various Recruitment activities (i.e., posting jobs on job boards, attending career fairs, updating templates, assist with sourcing candidates, doing community outreach research and connections, uploading candidate documents, etc.)
  • Shadow HR department team members throughout the course of their duties.
  • Assist with special projects for the People Department.

This position will provide an overview of helping DVR and FCS clients find meaningful employment within Kitsap County and assist current Skookum employees be successful in their jobs. The intern will learn about compliance requirements and regulations for the department. This position will work with people of all abilities. Interns will gain direct work experience, professional & personal development workshops, continued education, tuition assistance, mentorship & networking, and exposure to senior leaders in their field of interest during this paid internship.** Job shadow Employment Specialists, Career Advisor, CES Manager, Training Manager, Employee Support Program Manager, and Accessibility Specialist as they work with clients and employees.

  • Assist clients in creating resumes, applying for jobs, and interviewing for positions.
  • Attend Workforce Development team meetings.
  • Attend the Diversity and Accessibility committee’s summer quarter meetings.
  • Present job readiness presentations, help with ECPs and research career opportunities.
  • Assist with summer events.
  • Send clients a list of weekly job opportunities.
  • Build, at least, three employer connections during the ten-week internship.
  • Attend two external partner organization summer meetings.
  • Develop and present training for employees, supervisors, leads on various topics which could include disabilities, accommodations, life skills, diversity, career development and confidentiality.
  • Work directly with employees who have disabilities. This may include job coaching, assisting employees in crisis by referring to local resources and assisting employees in identifying accommodations that may assist them in their jobs.
  • Assist Technology Accessibility Specialist with developing training and guidelines to ensure WCAG compliance.
  • Assist with Front Desk coverage as needed.
  • Review DisabilityIN guidelines and areas for opportunity. Present findings and improvement ideas to WFD leaders.
  • Research Inclusion best practices, help develop strategy and training.
  • Research nonprofits with likeminded missions for Community Support Committee grants.
  • Assist with event planning and coordination, interfacing with vendors and cross-functional teams.
  • Mentoring other employees to develop jobs.
  • Work on a collaborative intern cohort team project.
  • Maintain a professional and positive attitude.
  • Attend intern team meetings and trainings.
  • All Other Duties as Assigned*

Summary of Experience for the Skookum Workforce Development Intern:* Preferably in the process of obtaining a BA/BS in Social Services, Sociology or a closely related field.

  • A background check and E-Verify will be conducted for this position.
  • Computer data management and word processing skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high standard of confidentiality, time management, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Valid state driver’s license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Skookum’s insurance.
