The Junior Inspector/Summer Student will assist the Contract Administration Team in overseeing transportation projects. This role involves supporting senior inspectors and the contract administration team in ensuring that construction activities comply with contract specifications, standards, and regulations. The summer student will gain hands-on experience in transportation project inspection, and contract administration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the inspection of transportation construction projects to ensure compliance with contract specifications and standards.
  • Support senior inspectors in documenting construction activities and preparing inspection reports.
  • Help in reviewing and interpreting construction plans, specifications, and drawings.
  • Assist in monitoring project progress and identifying potential issues or delays.
  • Collaborate with contract administration team to resolve issues that arise during construction.
  • Conduct field visits to observe construction activities and gather data for reports.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of inspection activities and project documentation.

Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of transportation engineering principles and construction practices.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous internship or work experience in transportation engineering or construction.
  • Familiarity with contract administration processes and documentation.
  • Knowledge of local transportation regulations and standards.

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related program.

Your Opportunity

Stantec has a need for a Co-op/Intern based out of our office in Ottawa, CA. You would work within a specialized team in support of various initiatives involving climate, sustainability, public policy, and international development.

Your Key Responsibilities

ROLE AND TASKS

  • Interact with senior staff and leaders.
  • Contribute to the preparation of quality technical documents.
  • Draft policy briefs, memos, and reports under the supervision of senior staff.
  • Compile data and statistics from various sources for policy and project analysis.
  • Assist in audit assessments with assigned tasks commensurate with your level of experience.
  • Attend social and professional development events.
  • Provide support to and assist as needed an experienced team of professionals engaged in public policy.
  • Coordinating of/participating in the preparation of project details.
  • Participate in team meetings, providing input and suggestions for policy development and implementation
  • Maintain updated knowledge of current events and policy changes relevant to the organization’s mission.
  • Perform various office tasks as required to deliver a quality product on schedule.
  • Support communities we live and work.

Qualifications

  • Public relations skills and ability to communicate with staff, volunteers, corporate clients, and the public.
  • Capacity to work on several projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated interest in climate, sustainability, and public policy.
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Problem-solving skills, discretion and good judgement when handling confidential/sensitive information
  • Confident, detail orientated and enthusiastic team player
